As you may know, I recently moved to Oregon; and apparently it’s blueberry season! Luckily our area has several “you-pick” berry farms. (This is now my newest dream addition to our future farm).
Yesterday my family went to the Sauvie Island Blueberry Farm and we picked almost 16 pounds of blueberries! There are several varieties in the 2 blueberry fields, and they will tell you the best rows to pick from when you arrive. They provide clean buckets and tubs for you to use or you are welcome to bring your own. When you’re finished picking they will weigh and bag the berries for you, and it only costs $2.00 per pound.
I loved how clean and manicured the berry fields were. The facility and fields are inviting and the berries are just delicious. In fact, they are so good that my son’s berry picking bucket stayed completely empty. He just couldn’t keep them out of his mouth. Luckily they are good for you, so I didn’t mind his blueberry bender. They are so yummy, I can’t really blame him.
I give the Sauvie Island Blueberry Farm 5 stars and 2 thumbs up! If you are ever in the Portland area in late summer I highly recommend swinging by to pick a few yourself. It’s fun and family friendly, and these fresh berries are bursting with that homegrown flavor.
Some things to keep in mind when you visit; they only accept cash or check, also, since it can get quite warm in these fields I recommend wearing a hat and sunscreen. Lastly, bring plenty of water or be prepared to buy bottled water there for a dollar.
I’m already looking forward to my next trip to a you-pick farm!
